Walmart Apple Juice Recall: Alabama Among 25 States Affected Due to Arsenic Levels
Nearly 10,000 cases of apple juice, sold in Walmart stores across the U.S., have been recalled; that – after the juice was found to contain potentially harmful levels of inorganic arsenic. According to information from the Associated Press, Alabama along with several other states in the southeast, are included in the recall.
Last Friday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration upgraded the recall of “Great Value” brand Apple Juice to Class II, after an initial announcement of a voluntary recall on August 15th. Under the new classification, the affected product may cause temporary adverse health effects – but is unlikely to cause serious medical issues. Florida-based manufacturer Refresco Beverages U.S. Inc. – recalled 9,535 cases of the apple juice sold in 25 states, Puerto Rico and also the District of Columbia. That recall applies to Great Value brand apple juice – sold in six-packs of eight-ounce bottles. The maker voluntarily recalled bottles, after finding levels of inorganic arsenic that exceeded industry standards (13.2 parts per billion), according to the FDA.
