Some Say Higher Wages Needed to Retain Piedmont City Workers

A very delicate situation with city workers has developed in Piedmont. City workers are leaving for other nearby businesses for higher wages.

Tim Frost, Street and Sanitation Supervisor, brought this to the attention of the Council, City Clerk and Mayor a month ago. Right now, the starting wage for an employee is $11.50 per hour. They would like to bump that to $15.00 an hour.

But, this is a sticky situation with tenured and long time employee’s in good standing. They will have to be compensated properly, so they will need a bump in wages also. This has become double edge sword for a veteran workers and a new employees.

The Mayor, Clerk, and Council  know they need to continue to review  and be proactive with a decision. This is expected to be addressed at the next Piedmont Regular Town Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
