Now is the time to know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Neither are not to be taken lightly.
Heat exhaustion is when a person will feel faint or dizzy, excessive sweating, cool, pale, clammy skin, nausea or vomiting, along with muscle cramps.
When this occurs get to a cooler, air conditioned place. Drink water if fully conscious and take a cool shower or use cold compresses.
Now, heat stroke is another type of beast. With heat stroke, a person develops a throbbing headache, no sweating, body temperature, is above 103 degrees, with red hot dry skin, nausea or vomiting, rapid strong pulse and a person may lose consciousness.
When heat stroke occurs CALL 9-1-1, take immediate action to cool the person until help arrives.
Please always be mindful to heat stroke and heat exhaustion during the summer months.
