Cherokee County Schools Board Meeting

During this week’s afternoon meeting of the Cherokee County School Board, Superintendent Mike Welsh asked the Board to approve the 2024-2025 Salary Schedules which was approved.

The Board then adopted the Proposed Vape Intervention and Education Policy.

Next on the agenda was to review the proposed 2024-2025 student handbook and review the Proposed Policy Revisions.

The Board approved the Alabama Education Stability for Foster Students LEA Plan, along with approving contracts for Extended Family, Seasons Counseling and Consulting Services, LLC, three areas of Lighthouse Counseling, LLC, The Bridge, Inc. and Weiss Lake Counseling. Also, energy savings budgets for Centre Elementary and Centre Middle School were approved, along with the meal prices for the 2024-2025 school year for employees and visitors.

The Board approved out-of-state travel for Haley Cosby and FCCLA students to attend a fall leadership institute at Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Oct. 18-25, funded by FCCLA/Ginny Shaver money. The board also approved Brian Knapp, Curt Hendon, and the Gaylesville varsity football team to attend football camp at Camp Hamby in Summerville, Ga., on July 22-23 – Funded by GHS Football.

The Board declared one item as surplus property which will be sold. It’s a milk box from Cherokee County High School.

After this, the Board approved Personnel Action. Item A was the retirement of Kelly Hopper. Item B was the resignations for Mark Green and Cole Murphy. Items C and D were Certified Transfers of Jennifer Prater and Ryne Burt, effective during the 2024-25 school year. Item E was Classified Placements for Blake Puryear and Alyssa Baird. Item F was 2024-2025 Substitute Renewals. Item G is Leave of Absence for Jennifer Webb. Item H was approved Supplemental Pay for 16 individuals. Item I was two job postings.

Next on the agenda, the Board approved Professional Development and reviewed 14 current job postings.

Superintendent Welsh, reminded everyone students will return to school on Wednesday, Aug. 7. The next Cherokee Schools Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 29 at 4 p.m.
