Cedartown Man Takes His Own Life in Rome

The Rome, Georgia Police Department, and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, closed areas around Riverside Park on Friday evening due to a person in the area experiencing a mental health crisis and being armed with a gun.  A large police presence responded to Riverside Parkway to try to resolve the situation and during the time the public was asked to report any sort of suspicious activity to 9-1-1.  The Cedartown man in question, reportedly posted on Facebook, several times stating he was hiding from an alleged “crime organization”.

A Georgia State Patrol helicopter was reportedly called in – to help assist law enforcement in locating the subject; Rome Police soon confirmed the man took his own life, as police got close to his location.

We’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
