One person has been arrested in connection with a fatal wreck occurring early Saturday morning in neighboring Floyd County, Georgia.

A three vehicle accident took place just across the Alabama/Georgia line, at approximately 7:50am (Alabama Time) on the Alabama Highway near Halls Valley Road – and claimed the lives of two people.  According to the Georgia State Patrol, an eastbound 2023 Acura – driven by 38 year-old Jamie Smith, of Birmingham, crossed into the westbound lane where it struck an 18 wheeler truck.  That impact caused the tractor trailer to travel into the eastbound lane, where it struck a third vehicle -a 2020 Nissan Altima.

The driver of the Altima – identified as 31 year-old Ashley Jackson, and a passenger – 18 year-old Rico Jermaine English, both of Birmingham were killed in the crash.  Both the driver of the Acura and the tractor trailer were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
