Advocate’s Say They’ll Push Making Safety Reports of Fish in State Waters More Accessible

Advocates for Alabama’s rivers said they plan to continue their “push” to make reports on the safety of fish in state waters more accessible.

The Alabama Department of Public Health publishes its “Fish Advisories” each year but it’s rather cumbersome and not “must-read” material.   BUT, it is important for all those who like to catch, cook and eat fish from Alabama’s lakes, rivers and creeks.   Environmentalists want to change how the information is published, and presented.

Advocates want signs detailing exactly what fish are unsafe to eat, and at what levels, posted at every public boat ramp in the state BUT THE bill to mandate the change has failed in the past two legislative sessions.

Efforts to change the reporting will continue.
