Rome Man Charged With Murder in Connection with Mobile Home Fire

A 26 year-old resident of Rome, Georgia was jailed, after both police and fire officials said he intentionally set fire to his step-mother’s mattress at a mobile home on Addington Drive.  The victim, 70-year-old Sarah Lynn Lary, perished in that fire along with two dogs and a cat.  Fire officials received a call that a victim was trapped inside the burning mobile home around 9:00pm on Saturday.  By the time firefighters found the victim, she was already deceased.

Timothy Edward Lary – who lived at the mobile home with his father and stepmother reportedly made incriminating remarks to the Floyd County Police at the scene of the fire, and he was then arrested and charged with three counts first degree arson, two counts aggravated assault also three counts of cruelty to animals, with neglect of a disabled or elder person – and criminal damage to property in the first degree.

He has additionally been charged with Murder.

The Georgia State Fire Marshal is assisting Floyd County authorities with the on-going investigation.
