Piedmont gets past Geraldine, Hokes Bluff to clinch berth in Class 3A East Softball Regional title game

ALBERTVILLE – The Piedmont Bulldogs advanced to the Class 3A East Softball Regional championship game on Wednesday with wins over Geraldine and Hokes Bluff. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Geraldine 10-3 and Hokes Bluff 8-5.

Piedmont will take on Plainview in the regional championship game on Thursday.

In the win over Geraldine, Piedmont erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the third inning to take control of the game.

Savannah Smith went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Carson Young was 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Jaycee Glover also went 2-for-4 with a run.

Cayla Brothers collected a hit, two runs and a RBI. Cacey Brothers and Eliza Mathis both added a hit. Ava Pope posted a run and a RBI. Cadence Buttram scored twice and N’Kiya Bothwell scored once.

Smith earned the win after tossing a one-hitter with five strikeouts through 2 2/3 innings. Young picked up a save after working the rest of the game. She gave up an earned run on five hits.

In the win over Hokes Bluff, Glover led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a 4-for-4 performance with a run and two RBIs.

Smith once again had a pair of hits, including a double. She also scored a run. Pope posted a pair of hits, two runs and a RBI. Cacey Brothers went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Cayla Brothers had a hit and scored a run. Young had a hit and scored twice. Amiyah Thomas tallied a hit and a RBI. Buttram contributed a hit. Amarae Champion finished with a run and a RBI.

Smith again earned the win in the circle after working all seven innings. She gave up five earned runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
