Sand Rock’s boys 6th, girls 7th in Class 2A state track and field meet

CULLMAN – The Sand Rock boys finished sixth and the Lady Wildcats seventh in the Class 2A state track and field meet at Cullman over the weekend.

Cedar Bluff’s girls tied for ninth with Billingsley and the Tiger boys were 16th in the Class 1A meet. Piedmont’s girls finished 11th and the Bulldog boys were 27th in the 3A meet.

Leading Sand Rock’s boys was Jack Watson, who finished second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.30. He was also seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.09.

Caleb Yoder finished fourth in the 1600-meter run (4:33.55) and seventh in the 400-meter dash (51.88).

The Wildcats’ 4×400 meter relay team took third (3:34.73) and the 4×800 meter relay team of Watson, Brody Johnson, Bryant Yoder and Ben Bruce took fourth place with a time of 8:48.75.

Skylar Nash came in fifth in the discus (125’9″). He was also seventh in the javelin (148′). Brendon Lindsey was also seventh in the triple jump (39’6 1/2″).

Cold Springs won the 2A boys meet with 94 total points. Reeltown was second with 60 points. Holly Pond finished third with 58 points. Sand Rock scored a total of 36 points.

Zoey Handy earned a silver medal for the Lady Wildcats in the 100-meter hurdles (18.07).  The Lady Wildcats’ 4×800 meter relay team of Anna King, Abby King, Emma Swain and Katelin Stiefel also earned silver with a time of 10:50.01. The 4×400 relay team took fifth with a time of 4:28.53.

Brylaina Holcomb took fourth in the javelin with a throw of 99’8”.

Anna and Abby King finished sixth and ninth respectively in the 1600-meter run with times of 5:54.68 and 6:05.00. They were also ninth and 10th respectively in the 800-meter run with times of 2:37.27 and 2:38.22.

Christy Alred was eighth in the 3200-meter run (13:21.09). Emma Swain was 10th with a time of 13:55.28.

Whitesburg Christian claimed the 2A girls meet with 124 points. Francis Marion was second with 44 points and Hatton third with 39 points. Sand Rock earned a total of 29 points.

Leading the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers was Lacie Roer, who claimed silver in the shot put (29’8″). She was also fifth in the discus with a throw of 90’1/2” and eighth in the javelin (90’2″).

The 4×800 meter relay team of Caitlyn Sherrod, Peyton Williams, Kya Green and Paityn Walker earned a bronze medal with a time of 12:14.54.

Skye Jordan took fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.93.

Cassandra Davis took sixth in the long jump (14’) and Pearl Smither was eighth in the triple jump (29’6″).

Amelia Ford finished 10th in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:36.75.

Walker finished 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:50.17. Amelia Ford also finished 10th in the 1600-meter run (6:36.75).

Marion County won the girls 1A meet with 84 points. Marengo managed second with 55 points. Winterboro was third with 54 points. Cedar Bluff and Billingsley both finished with 27 points.

Leading the Tiger boys in the 1A boys meet was Zyrese Wynn, who finished fourth in the pole vault (9’6”), fifth in the 800-meter run (2:10.90) and 10th in the 400-meter dash (54.47). Carter Dillingham finished fifth in the shot put (40’7 1/2″). Michael Adams was sixth in the triple jump (38’6”). Dylan McDaniel tied for seventh in the high jump (5’8”).

Gaylesville’s Aydn Heinrich finished seventh in the 400-meter dash (53.55).

Winterboro won the 1A boys meet with 103 points. Faith Christian finished second with 68 points. Florala took third with 63.5 points. Cedar Bluff managed 17.5 points.

In the Class 3A girls meet, Piedmont’s girls were paced by Lexi Ray’s silver in the pole vault (9’6″).

Claudia Dempsey earned a bronze in the 800-meter run (2:28.30). She was also sixth in the 400-meter run (1:03.06).

The 4×800 meter relay team of Mattie Todd, Rylie Ann Holbrooks, Katie Brown and Dempsey. They finished sixth with a time of 11:36.62.

Katie Brown finished ninth in the high jump (4’8”).

Altamont topped the 3A girls with 85 points, followed by Houston Academy in second with 80 points. Westminster Christian was third with 60 points. Piedmont scored 20 points.

Piedmont’s boys were led by the 4×800 meter relay team of Caiden Cardelli, Chase Cardelli, Chase Haynes and John David Taylor. They finished fifth with a time of 8:49.98.

Elijah Young was ninth in the javelin with a throw of 143’10”. Haynes was 10th in the 300-meter hurdles (43.63).

Madison Academy’s boys finished first with 96 points, followed by W.S. Neal with 84 points. Weaver was third with 55 points. Piedmont finished with nine total points.
