Three-run fifth inning lifts Piedmont softball to Class 3A, Area 10 softball championship

PIEDMONT – Piedmont rallied from a one-run deficit with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to earn a 3-1 victory over Weaver to clinch the Class 3A, Area 10 softball championship on Monday.

Cacey and Cayla Brothers both doubled, with Cayla Brothers driving in a run. Savannah Smith added a hit and a RBI for Piedmont. She also picked up the complete-game win in the circle after giving up and earned run on four hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.

Eliza Mathis managed a hit, a run and a RBI. Cadence Buttram had a hit and scored a run.

Both teams will advance to the East Regional in Albertville beginning on May 8 at 10:45 a.m.
