Weiss Lake Crappie Rodeo Ends April 30

Crappie anglers fishing Weiss Lake since February 1st have been enjoying the opportunity to catch tagged crappies and claim cash prizes. There have been several $1000 fish caught, some anglers claimed $200 prizes, some $100 and some $50 for catching the tagged fish.

On Friday, Scott Williamson from Attalla caught a $1,000 tagged crappie. Jamey Johnson, treasurer of the Weiss Lake Improvement Association, presented Williamson with his One Thousand Dollar Check at Coosa Corner in Leesburg.

On Saturday, Harry Richardson of Centre, caught a double tagged fish worth $200.   

This 2024 Crappie Rodeo has been the biggest Rodeo the WLIA has had since its inception according to Treasurer Johnson. He said they have sold more Rodeo Badges than any previous season.

The Weiss Lake Improvement Association uses the Crappie Rodeo as a fund raiser for the organization which uses the funds to improve the fishery of Weiss Lake. They put out fish habitats to help the fish thrive. In addition to that they have helped mark the river channel in Weiss Lake for safer navigation for all boaters. The Association works year round on Weiss Lake projects.

If you are crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, make sure you have your Rodeo Badge so you can claim your prize if you catch a tagged fish. There are more than 400 tagged fish worth $100, there are more than 40 tagged fish worth $1000 each, more than 400 worth $50 each and One Tagged Crappie worth $10,000. Remember the Rodeo Ends April 30th!
