SPRING GARDEN – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to an 8-2 softball win over Appalachian on Thursday.

Avery Steward, Helena Ingram and Rylie Ham each delivered a pair of hits. One of Ingram’s hits was a double. She also scored twice. Steward also scored twice and drove in a run. Ham also drew a walk.

Addie Word doubled and drove in two runs. She also scored another run. Maggie Reedy had a hit, a walk and scored twice. Layla Ingram added a hit, a run and a RBI. Maggie Jarrett and Lilly McCain both came away with a hit and a RBI.

Steward picked up the complete-game win. She surrendered two earned runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Spring Garden hosts the Class 1A, Area 11 tournament on Friday. The Lady Panthers open the tournament against Faith Christian at 3:30 p.m.
