Collinsville sweeps Altamont, advances to second round of state baseball playoffs

COLLINSVILLE – Class 2A, No. 5 Collinsville swept Altamont in first-round baseball playoff action on Friday. The scores were 8-2 and 3-1.

In the first game, Jeremiah Killian collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, with two RBIs. Mason McAteer managed a pair of hits, including a double, with a walk, a run and a RBI. Jake Middlebrooks also collected two hits, a walk, a run and two RBIs. Justin Pruitt posted a pair of hits and a walk.

Will Edmondson had a hit, a run and a RBI. Tytan Morgan contributed a hit, a walk and a RBI. Gavin Lang contributed a hit and a run.

Lang also picked up the win on the mound. He gave up a pair of hits and a pair of walks with 10 strikeouts. Morgan tossed an inning and gave up two earned runs on two hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

In the second game, Zach Clanton gave up an earned run on four hits with three walks and 12 strikeouts in seven innings to help the Panthers complete the sweep.

McAteer and Killian both doubled and scored a run. Lang also had a hit and scored a run. Edmondson added a hit and a RBI. Cooper Coker, Shaun Stewart and Middlebrooks each contributed a hit.

Collinsville (25-5) will travel to eighth-ranked Mars Hill for the second round of the playoffs next Friday. Mars Hill defeated Winston County 12-1 and 7-2 in other first-round action on Friday.
