Authorities have released the name of the driver, that was fatally injured in a fiery tanker truck crash on Interstate 22 in Walker County. Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Stephen Zmolek, Jr. He was 40 and lived in Boaz.
Senior Trooper Cody Farrar, said that Zmolek was driving a Freightliner Cascadia that left the road, overturned, and then caught fire. He was transporting diesel fuel. Zmolek was pronounced dead on the scene.
The wreck happened at 10:10am Tuesday near the 49-mile marker close to the Carbon Hill exit; the crash shut down that portion of the interstate for much of the day. Troopers announced about 8:30pm that all lanes were back open.
The investigation is on-going.
