Sheriff Shaver administered the oath of office to a new deputy Thursday. Deputy Greg Walker will be Cherokee County’s 1st mental health deputy to assist with mental health issues in Cherokee County.
Sheriff Shaver said, “we appreciate the support of Probate Judge Tim Burgess & the County Commission for helping to make the position of mental health deputy possible.”
“Mental illness is a large issue for counties & sheriff’s offices across the Nation and it’s important that we do what we can on a local level to address it,” said Chief Deputy Josh Summerford.
