Weather Update

Overview: A strong storm system from the Southern Plains states will move into the Southeast during the day on Wednesday, with a potential for heavy rainfall and severe storms to impact Central Alabama.  Many uncertainties still exist in terms of how the event will actually evolve.  However, due to the very dynamic nature of the storm system with deep Gulf of Mexico moisture expected to be in place, the likelihood of severe storms and flooding remains in the forecast.  In addition, gradient winds outside of thunderstorms are expected to gust up to 40mph Wednesday night through early Thursday morning.

Changes from previous forecast: The Moderate Risk of flash flooding has been trimmed back in area, with northern counties now within a Slight Risk for flash flooding.  An Enhanced Risk of severe storms has been added across western and southwestern counties, and the Slight Risk for severe storms has been expanded farther east, covering almost the remainder of Central Alabama.
