Piedmont falls to Alexandria, eliminates White Plains in Calhoun County Softball Tournament

OXFORD – The Piedmont Lady Bulldogs split a pair of softball games in the Calhoun County Softball Tournament at Choccolocco Park on Thursday. They dropped a 7-0 decision to Alexandria in winners’ bracket action, but rebounded to eliminate White Plains 5-2.

In the loss to Alexandria, the Lady Bulldogs were limited to just three hits. Amarae Champion doubled. Savannah Smith and Cacey Brothers both added singles.

Smith suffered the loss after working four innings. She gave up six earned runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

In the win over White Plains, Smith went 2-for-2 and scored twice. Cayla Brothers tripled, scored and drove in a run. Champion contributed a hit, a run and a RBI. Carson Young and Cadence Buttram both had a hit and drove in a run.

Smith earned the win in the circle after scattering an earned run on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

The win sets up a rematch with Alexandria on Friday at 6 p.m. in the championship game.
