COLLINSVILLE – The Collinsville Panthers hosted a baseball doubleheader against Etowah and Benjamin Russell on Saturday. The Panthers earned a split on the day, defeating defending 4A state champion Etowah 10-6 and fell short to Benjamin Russell 5-1.
In the win over Etowah, Collinsville (11-2) rallied from a 6-3 deficit with two runs in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth.
Mason McAteer went 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Will Edmondson and Jameson Coker both had a pair of hits. Edmondson also walked, scored a run and drove in two.
Jake Middlebrooks homered, walked twice, and drove in a pair of runs. Gavin Lang tripled, walked, scored twice and drove in two. Tytan Morgan collected a hit, two walks, two runs and a RBI.
Zach Clanton walked and scored a run. Jeremiah Killian walked twice and drove in a run. Lucas McDaniel also scored a run.
Lang tossed three innings of four-hit ball with a walk and two strikeouts. He didn’t allow an earned run. McAteer worked an inning of one-hit scoreless ball with three walks. Edmondson also worked three innings and gave up a hit with a walk and four strikeouts.
In the loss to Benjamin Russell, the Wildcats took an early 3-0 advantage and held on for the win. The Panthers scored their lone run in the bottom of the third.
McAteer had a pair of hits, including a double. He also scored Collinsville’s lone run. Lang had a hit and a RBI. Edmondson contributed a hit and walk. Killian finished with a hit.
Clanton suffered the loss after working six innings. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Braxton Daugherty worked an inning of no-hit ball with a strikeout.
Collinsville travels to Gaston on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
