According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver – on Friday afternoon (March 8th, 2024), Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on County Road 45 where a citizen called and reported someone was in a building on her property.
Senior Sergeant Snead and Investigator Smith quickly arrived in the area and were told the suspect had fled the scene. Deputies later found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect, at a residence nearby. They then made contact with the man in the vehicle, who also matched the description given to officers.
After further investigation Tony Van Pierce, 57 from Piedmont, was then arrested for Burglary 3rd Degree, Theft of Property 4th Degree, and also Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm. Pierce was then transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
Deputies were soon able to recover all of the victim’s rightful property.
