This “Hazardous Weather Outlook” is for counties served by the National Weather Service office in Birmingham.

Outlook through Tonight.

Heavy rainfall is likely this afternoon through Saturday morning; rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches with isolated higher amounts will result in the potential for flooding. Highest rainfall amounts are expected to be along and south of Interstate 20.

There is a Level 2 out of 5 risk of severe storms for the southern half of Central Alabama tonight. The threat may begin as early as 6 PM for southwest counties – then continue through 9 AM Saturday for eastern and southeastern counties.  Damaging winds up to 60 mph and a brief tornado are possible.

Saturday through next Thursday.

The potential for heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding will continue through Saturday morning, especially for eastern and also southeastern counties in Central Alabama.  The heaviest rainfall is expected to end by midday Saturday.

Activation of storm spotters and emergency management may be needed on Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.
