Tuesday’s Election results across Cherokee County yielded no real surprises, with former President Donald Trump taking first place by gaining approximately 89% of the vote; 3rd District Representative Mike Rogers also won big, gathering some 84% in the contest – and in the race for President of the Public Service Commission, the winner was Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh, walking away with 62% of the vote.
And, Proposed Statewide Amendment #1 was approved in a VERY CLOSE contest, with YES votes barely beating out NO votes – with just over 50% to approximately 49%.
The passage of Amendment 1 exempts local laws or local constitutional amendments from the budget isolation resolution process, which requires that the legislature must pass education and general fund budgets prior to enacting any other legislation, unless the legislation receives a 60% majority vote from the legislature.
