Facebook, Instagram Experiences Worldwide Outage

UPDATE: The outage affecting Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, appears to be over.

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone confirmed the restored service saying, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Facebook, along with Meta’s Messenger and Instagram, experienced what appeared to be a worldwide outage Tuesday, affecting hundreds of thousands of users.

The outage reportedly also included the company’s internal systems.

Users began reporting issues logging into their accounts at approximately 9:30am.

According to DownDectector, a website that monitors online outages, Facebook had the most reported outages, with as many as 500,000 Americans experiencing problems. Around 50,000 outage reports had been issued regarding Instagram and at least 10,000 for Messenger.

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X, “we’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”

We’ll have additional details as the story develops.
