Piedmont’s Smith blanks White Plains in softball opener

WHITE PLAINS – Savannah Smith tossed a complete game 3-hit shutout on 104 pitches with nine strikeouts. She also walked, scored a run and drove in another in Piedmont’s 4-0 softball season-opening win at White Plains on Thursday.

Ava Pope went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Carson Young doubled and scored a run. Cayla Brothers was 1-for-3 with a run. Jaycee Glover stole a base and scored a run.

Piedmont hosts Saks on Monday at 5 p.m.
