City of Centre Council Regular Meeting

During the Tuesday afternoon City of Centre Council Meeting Mayor Mansfield addressed the Council about the contract for the outsourcing of concessions at all of the ball fields and the Al Shumaker Aquatic Center. The Mayor said that a man by the name of John Droxler, who also manages the Piedmont Concessions and is an IT person from Spring Garden High School. He will be responsible for the full operations including hiring employees and purchasing all supplies needed. Mayor Mansfield stressed this will be a game changer for the City and the hope is to make money. They will advertise for summer help with the cutoff day Friday March 8th. This was unanimously passed by the Council.

Next on the agenda was the topic of a new or used fire truck for the City of Centre Fire Department. Mayor Mansfield addressed the Council during the planning session that a brand new fire truck would cost $ 485,000. He said with all the information they have gathered that maybe the direction they’re going in. The Mayor also said now is not a good time to buy a fire truck. Mayor Mansfield commended Interim Fire Chief Robert Pace on a lot of leg work he’s put into the process. The Mayor said they would get the money from budget money, fire money or money elsewhere. The Mayor asked the Council if their all in agreement if they found the right fire truck could they move on it quickly,  so they can obtain the vehicle needed.

In the Mayor’s comments he thanked Bobby Paul Centre’s Street and Sanitation Supervisor for all the hard work he and his group do. Other Council comments were that they all thanked the city employees for their hard work and contribution.

Then, Mayor Mansfield called an executive session at 5:05 with the City Attorney Al Shumaker and the Building Inspector Raymond Matthews. The Council  reconvened at 5:24 and Mayor Mansfield asked the Council to approve the clean out the discovery phase at the Children’s Advocacy Center with  S & H Water Proofing from Piedmont in the amount of $ 12,215. 57 with the Council concurring.  The Meeting then was adjourned.

The next City of Centre Council Meeting will be Tuesday March 11th.
