Cherokee County sweeps baseball doubleheader at Pell City

PELL CITY – The Cherokee County Warriors swept a baseball doubleheader at Pell City on Monday, highlighted by an 8-7 comeback win in game one. The Warriors won the second game by the final of 11-3.

In the first game, the Warriors (6-2) rallied from a 6-2 deficit with five runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Jace Turner and Nate Black led the Warriors at the plate with a pair of hits and a walk apiece. Turner scored twice and drove in a run. Black had three RBIs.

Luke Young went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and a RBI. Jeb Crane was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Parker Wilson went 1-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Cooper Allen was 1-for-3 with a run. Adam Griffith went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Jackson Aultman was 1-for-2 with a RBI. Cooper Rodgers walked and scored a run.

Black earned the win after working 3 2/3 innings. He gave up an earned run on three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Elsberry worked 3 1/3 innings. He gave up an earned run on seven hits with walk and two strikeouts.

In game two, Rodgers led the charge at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk, four runs and a RBI. Young went 2-for-4 with two doubles with six RBIs. Turner was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

Case Hill went 1-for-3 with a run. Crane walked three times and scored two runs. Aultman walked and scored a run. Black scored a run and Griffith drew a walk.

Aultman earned the win after working two innings of no-hit ball with a strikeout. Hill and Griffith also tossed two innings. Hill gave up two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Griffith allowed a hit, a walk and an earned run with two strikeouts. Rodgers tossed an inning and gave up two earned runs on two hits with three walks.

Cherokee County is scheduled to host Spring Garden on Tuesday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
