Human remains were discovered Friday morning (February 23rd, 2024), inside a truck registered to a man reported missing over a decade ago, in Cherokee County (Alabama).  According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver the truck, which was found in Weiss Lake at Chestnut Bay was registered to Oscar Lewis King – a resident of Centre who went missing in late 2013.  Reportedly King was 74 at the time of his disappearance.  Friday – a fisherman reported what he believed was a submerged vehicle and when law enforcement recovered the truck soon thereafter – human remains were found inside.

The remains are being sent to a forensics lab for confirmation of identity – that according to the Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy, Josh Summerford.  The Jacksonville State Center for Applied Forensics and also the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division provided assistance to Sheriff’s Office personnel in the recovery.  Sheriff Shaver said King went missing at about the same time as his 2001 blue Dodge Dakota truck, which had an Alabama disability license plate.

We’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
