Eli Gold Has A New Gig With The Nashville Kats

Eli Gold has a new gig.

Gold, who served as the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide for 36 years, will be the radio voice of the new Nashville Kats of the Arena Football League, the Tennessean reports.

“I am so very excited about returning to the Arena Football League as the voice of the Nashville Kats,” Gold told The Tennessean. “I say returning, because I was the TV voice of the league back when the games were on NBC and TNN, and I came to love the product.”

The 70-year-old play-by-play man joined me on “The Opening Kickoff” on WNSP-FM 105.5 this week, calling the news sad.
“I proposed doing another full season and calling it quits at that point,” he said. “They weren’t interested in that. They wanted to make a change now. There were things I wanted to say that they didn’t really want to have out in public.”
On Thursday, the CTSN released a statement in which it was explained Gold was offered a “limited roll.”
The Nashville Kats will play a 10-games schedule, starting April 27.
Gold is no stranger to Nashville, working as the radio play-by-play announcer for the NHL’s Predators during the 2006-07 season.
