Severe Weather “Sales Tax Holiday” – February 23rd – 25th

As we head into the busiest time of year for severe weather in Alabama – now is the time to prepare, and the Alabama Department of Revenue will waive the state sales tax on certain severe weather preparedness items.  Consumers can purchase these items without the state sales tax starting at 12:01am Friday, February 23rd – through midnight Sunday, February 25th.  Local sales tax may still apply.

Here are some of the covered items at $60 or less, per item:

  • Batteries
  • NOAA weather radios
  • Flashlights
  • Duct tape
  • Plywood
  • Non-electric food storage coolers
  • Ice packs
  • Self-contained first aid kits
  • Carbon monoxide detectors
  • Smoke detectors
  • Gas or diesel fuel tank or container

Any portable generator with a sales price of $1,000 (or less) – can also be purchased without state sales tax.
