In general barring any mistakes or extra reviews people can expect their tax refunds within 21 days as long as they file electronically and they use direct deposit.
And while the IRS cautions people against relying on receiving a REFUND by any certain date, certain types of returns definitely will take longer to process with naturally greater wait times for refunds. Filers who claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit OR EITC, OR Additional Child Tax Credit, ACTC, won’t receive refunds any SOONER than February 27th assuming they chose direct deposit and there are NO OTHER ISSUES with their tax return.
That mandatory delay is due to federal laws that REQUIRE extra identity checks for EITC or ACTC filers.
