Weiss Lake to Host National Crappie League Division I Tournament on March 16th

Weiss Lake, Centre, AL., will host a National Crappie League (NCL) Division I tournament on March 16, 2024.   Hosted by the Cherokee County CoC & Tourism, anglers will compete for a minimum of $10,000.00 and the opportunity to qualify for the 2024-25 National Championship.

A Division I tournament is geared towards amateur and seasoned anglers.   If you have not won $5,000 individually or $10,000 as a team in the previous 2 years with any major recognized trails, you may enter the event. 

The entry fee is $300.00 with the big fish fee built into the entry.  Anglers must be members of NCL which is $50.00 per member.   A late of $25.00 will apply if the team has not registered by midnight on March 10, 2024. Late registration and the pre-tournament meeting will be on March 15 at the Gadsden State Cherokee Arena, 801 Cedar Bluff Rd., Centre, AL.   Late registration is from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM with the meeting starting at 6:00 PM. Anglers will fish from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM and must be in the weigh-in line by 3:30.

Anglers may fish all legal waters on Weiss Lake.  Fishing hours will be 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM and teams are required to be in the weigh-in line by 3:30 PM.   The off water limit is 4:00 PM on March 14, 2024. The weigh-in will be held at Leesburg Landing Boat Ramp, Riverside Str., Leesburg, AL.

The National Crappie League will hold a free kids’ fishing rodeo on March 16 at the Bay Springs Resort and Marina.  Kids registration is from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. The kids will fish from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM.  Awards and prizes will be presented after the event.
