Cherokee County Schools Regular Board Meeting

During the Wednesday afternoon meeting of the Cherokee County School Board, Superintendent Mike Welsh addressed the Board about the 2024-2025 Academic Calendar with revisions. This is next school year and it’s dealing with the possibility of changing specific dates, just in case something happens which would necessitate a change. This was approved by the Board. Then, Mr. Welsh spoke to the Board about accepting bids. He said to always look for the lowest and most responsible bid.

The Board approved the Proposal/Consulting and Service Agreement with Morell Engineering for Gaylesville and Sand Rock Schools surveys. After this item, the Board also approved the pest control agreement with Cook’s Pest Control for Spring Garden School.

Next on the agenda was the 21st Century Cherokee County Learning Center Memorandums of Understanding, which they approved along with the Energy Saving Budget Amendment for Sand Rock School.

The Board then approved out of state travel for the Cherokee Future Farmers in America to travel to Louisville for the National Farm and Machine Expo.

In personnel action, the Board approved Gaylesville School to have a math coach for 10 months for grades K-5.

Superintendent Welsh commented about the Cherokee County School Problem Solving Summer Conference that will discuss absenteeism. He also spoke about the $200,000 grant for middle schools and 8th graders in Cherokee County. They also will be looking into a Anti-Vaping Policy. He also addressed that the construction project at Sand Rock School is not up and running yet, but should be around April 1st.

The next Cherokee County Schools Board Meeting is tentatively set for Wednesday March 13th.
