Chattooga County Business Owner Arrested Following Wreck

Chattooga County, Georgia used car dealer Billy Joe Dooley, was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office on charges of making a false report of a crime after he claimed that a vehicle was stolen.   Dooley was allegedly involved in a traffic accident, on Highway 27, in the Pennville area – and fled the scene of the accident.

Dooley later reported that the Audi Q5 that he was driving at the time of the accident, had been previously stolen from his car lot at Truck Town.   Dooley told a responding deputy – that the security cameras at his car lot were inoperable at the time the alleged theft took place.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader video evidence led investigators to believe that it was in fact, Dooley who had been driving the Audi at the time of the accident.   Four people in the other vehicle involved in the accident received minor injuries, according to the sheriff.  Dooley was charged by the sheriff’s office with the false report of a crime and obstruction of law enforcement officers.

The Georgia State Patrol has additionally charged Dooley with:  failure to report an accident, the failure to yield while turning left, hit and run, and also leaving the scene of an accident, and also open container of alcohol – in connection with the accident.
