White Plains ends Warrior boys’ basketball season

WHITE PLAINS – Jayquan Diamond delivered 15 points and Jacob Cornejo came away with 11, but they weren’t enough to lead the Cherokee County Warriors to victory in the Class 4A, Area 10 boys basketball tournament at White Plains on Monday. The Warriors’ season ended with a 66-44 setback.

Keyshawn Woods added nine points for the Warriors. Eli Martin connected on a pair of 3-pointers and finished with eight points.

Josh Wheeler also had a pair of treys and led White Plains with 18 points. Greg Laube added 15 points. Carter Johnson came away with 10 points and Daniel Williams finished with nine points.

The Wildcats built a 23-11 advantage in the first quarter and held a 34-22 edge at halftime. White Plains led 54-34 at the end of three quarters.

The Wildcats advance to Wednesday’s area title game, where they will take on Jacksonville. The Golden Eagles earned a 62-52 victory over Cleburne County in the other tournament semifinal on Monday.
