Traffanstedt’s 28 points not enough for Sand Rock boys in season-ending loss to Fyffe

GADSDEN – Ty Traffanstedt tallied 28 points, including four 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds and a pair of assists, but they weren’t enough to lead the Sand Rock Wildcats past Fyffe in the Class 2A, Area 12 boys basketball tournament on Monday. Fyffe sank 14 3-pointers en route to an 81-56 victory.

Carson Wiford connected on a pair of treys and had 10 points for Sand Rock. Dominick Clausen came away with seven points, 11 rebounds and an assist. Cam Gifford finished with seven points, nine rebounds and a block.

Isaac Slaton led the Red Devils with 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Cooper Cox collected 19 points, including a pair of treys. Alexander Nelson netted nine points, all on 3-pointers. Jesse Burt finished with eight points.

Fyffe held a 21-15 lead after one and built a 42-26 advantage by halftime. The Red Devils led 64-39 at the end of three quarters.

Up next for Fyffe is Gaston, a 40-36 winner over Collinsville in the other tournament semifinal. The Class 2A, Area 12 championship game is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday at Gaston.
