County Law Enforcement Searches Schools to Increase Safety

Recently, K-9s from Cherokee, Etowah, and DeKalb Counties – along with Leesburg Police assisted the area SRO’s in searching school campuses for the presence of narcotics and illegal substances.

Searches were conducted at Centre Middle School, Cherokee County High School and Cedar Bluff School.

“We appreciate the partnership with our surrounding agencies and the time they gave to help keep our schools safe,” said Sheriff Shaver.  “The partnership between the Cherokee County Schools and the Sheriff’s Office has proven to be a very valuable one, and I commend our SRO’s for working hard each and every day – to ensure a safe environment to work and learn in.”

This was the first K-9 search to take place in Cherokee County Schools in 2024 with more planned before the end of the (2023-2024) school year.

The goal is to have K-9 searches made on EACH school campus before the end of the school year.
