UPDATE From Cherokee Electric Co-Op Manager Randall Wilkie

Conserving On Electrical Use Now Will Help Reduce Your Power Bill

During this extreme cold weather across the north Alabama area electric power consumption is up, as you would expect.

WEIS Radio News spoke to Randall Wilkie – the Manager of the Cherokee Electric Co-op – about the usage and the electric grid across their service area.  He stated the grid is stable – there are a few outages – but the supply from TVA and capacity of the Co-op is at a good level.  However Mr. Wilkie said if the consumers could cut back on their thermostats a degree or two, it would help conserve the capacity we have and it would also help offset those expected higher bills next month due to the extreme cold.

He said he would not ask customers to disrupt their daily lives but if they could cut back a little that would help those transformers perform better and not overload.

Wilkie said that he and the Co-op appreciates the Customers cooperation during this extreme cold, which could bring down temperatures through the weekend.
