State Of Emergency Declared For 25 North Alabama Counties

Governor Kay Ivey has issued a state of emergency for 25 counties ahead of this week’s winter weather.
Governor Ivey also issued the following comment:
“We are anticipating unusually cold temperatures in Alabama this week, so I am urging everyone to be prepared, take caution traveling and stay weather aware.” – Governor Kay Ivey
The counties include: Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Fayette, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Morgan, Pickens, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.
The state of emergency is in effect as of 2:00 p.m. Central today, Sunday, January 14. The Proclamation Provides for Activation of the Alabama National Guard if deemed necessary by the Governor. It issues a warning about price gouging during the extreme weather event, provides a waiver of federal motor-carrier regulations if necessary to deliver emergency supplies in the affected areas, authorizes state offices to be closed at the direction of the Governor, authorizes school closings if necessary, and provides for actual expense reimbursement to State Employees providing disaster recovery and response away from their home base of operation for this event be reimbursed for the actual expenses they incur.
