Spring Garden boys, girls dominate Gaylesville in Friday area basketball action

SPRING GARDEN – Four Spring Garden Panthers scored in double figures, led by Jake Welsh’s 21 points and 12 rebounds, in a 76-40 area boys basketball win over visiting Gaylesville on Friday night.

John Welsh added 13 points for fourth-ranked Spring Garden (15-3). Noah Barber sank four treys and had 12 points. Connor Bates also rang for 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Cole Bailey came away with six points on a pair of treys. Caden Buttram finished with five points.

Kyler Bradley topped the Trojan scorers with 17 points. Caden Angle added a pair of 3-pointers and had eight points. Kuper Bradley and Collin Hendon finished with six and five points respectively.

Spring Garden jumped out to a 21-7 first quarter advantage and extended its lead to 42-13 at halftime. The Panthers held a 59-24 edge after three quarters.

Spring Garden plays at Fairview on Monday. Gaylesville is at Cedar Bluff on Tuesday.

In girls action, the Spring Garden Lady Panthers connected on 11 3-pointers and cruised to a 79-8 area basketball victory over visiting Gaylesville on Friday.

Top-ranked Spring Garden (20-1) scored 45 unanswered points to begin the game. Gaylesville finally broke its scoring drought in the second quarter on a pair of free throws by Gracie Dawson and a 3-pointer by Jayden Dobbins just before halftime.

Maggie Jarrett led the Lady Panthers with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. She also had seven steals and a pair of rebounds.

Avery Steward added 15 points, including three treys, with three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Kristen Lewis contributed 12 points, including a pair of treys, and eight rebounds. Olivia Law delivered 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Libby Brown came away with seven points, three assists, two steals and rebound. Lacie Jo McMurray managed six points on a pair of 3-pointers to go along with three rebounds and a steal. Chloe Rule contributed six points, three rebounds and a pair of steals. Ace Austin finished with seven assists, four steals two rebounds and two points.

Spring Garden hosts Springville on Saturday at 3 p.m.
