Cherokee County Schools Regular Board Meeting

During the Wednesday afternoon Cherokee County School Board Meeting Superintendent Mike Welsh called the meeting to order with Mr. Russell Jacoway called to the podium.

Mr. Jacoway, addressed the Board by giving them his year end Cenergistic report. He has been in that position for 9 years. He has had total support from the Board too. With himself and a total team effort he has saved the Cherokee County School System over $ 3 million dollars. That was his personal goal. He told the Board with the help of coaches, teachers and administrators they made cuts in areas where they had not before. It made a huge difference. Mr. Jacoway, told the Board $ 409,494.00 is what they would have spent more. They saved that much with the perseverance of the team concept. He also ask  how fast can we get to $ 4 million? The Board was very appreciative for Mr. Jacoway’s team effort performance.

The Board then adopted a Resolution in Support of Military Families-the Purple Star Program and they also adopted a Proclamation Declaring February 2024 as Career and Technical Education Month.

The Board approved the Owner Architect/Agreement for Cherokee County Career and Technical Center to get the roof’s fixed on some of the school’s buildings and they also approved 21st Cherokee County Learning Center External Agreements to work with the Centre Middle School.

The Board accepted a bid from CES Lawn Care for Centre Elementary

The Memorandum of Understanding with the Cherokee County Children’s Advocacy Center, along with the Hazardous Abatement and Demolition of Former Dee Day School were approved.

The Board then approved out of state travel of the Sand Rock School to go to Lexington, Kentucky in Personnel Action.

Superintendent Mike Welsh, said he is proud of all of our schools in his comments. Also, January is School Board Recognition Month.  He graciously thanked the Board for the job they are doing.

The Next Cherokee County Schools Board Meeting will be February 14th at 4 PM.
