Lady Warriors cruise to area basketball win over White Plains

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors jumped out on a 20-2 first quarter run and picked up a 68-14 area basketball win over visiting White Plains on Tuesday.

Mary Hayes Johnson connected on a pair of 3-pointers and scored 15 points for the Lady Warriors (17-3). She also had nine steals, three rebounds and two assists.

Audrey Haygood managed 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Deannia Starr delivered 10 points, 12 rebounds and three steals.

Ava Haygood and Jolie Alexander both scored seven points. Ava Haygood also had five steals and four boards. Alexander also posted four boards.

Nevaeh Gaidurgis and Vivian Connell both finished with six points. Gaidurgis also grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals and an assist. Connell connected on a pair of treys, had two assists and two steals.

No White Plains player reached double figures.

In boys action, White Plains earned a 60-36 victory.

Carter Johnson led the Wildcats with 15 points. Josh Wheeler came away with 12 points. Coleman Ray had nine points and Silas Hines finished with five points.

Eli Martin, Jayquan Diamond and Jacob Cornejo each scored eight points to lead the Warriors.

White Plains held a 14-6 advantage after one and built a 34-11 lead at halftime.

Both Cherokee County teams take on Jacksonville on Thursday.
