Lady Warriors begin new year with basketball win at Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA – Mary Hayes Johnson collected 11 points, five steals, two rebounds and an assist to lead the Cherokee County Lady Warriors to a 44-28 basketball win at Alexandria on Tuesday.

Deannia Starr and Ellisan Givens both scored eight points. Starr also had six rebounds, five steals, three blocks and an assist. Givens added six steals and four assists.

Audrey Haygood finished with five points, two rebounds and two assists. Nevaeh Gaidurgis grabbed 11 rebounds.

Allyssa Hunt led the Lady Cubs with 13 points. Pressley Slaton finished with five points.

Cherokee County held a 13-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Alexandria managed to tie things up at 19 heading into halftime. The Lady Warriors led 29-24 at the end of three quarters and went on a 15-4 run in the fourth for the final.
