Woman Killed in I-65 Crash Over Weekend

A 27-year-old woman – was killed in an I-65 crash that snarled traffic for several hours Saturday.   

The wreck happened at 4:45pm near Fultondale.  The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as – Gayla Joy Ingle – who resided in Florence.

Authorities said Ingle was the driver, and lone occupant, of a vehicle that left the interstate – and crashed into the rear of an 18-wheeler – that was parked on the shoulder of the interstate.   That Peterbilt tractor-trailer was driven by 32-year-old Kayeaun Jenkins of Fairfield.   Ingle reportedly wasn’t using a seat belt at the time of the crash, and was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:13pm.  Portions of the interstate remained closed until nearly 8:00 that evening.

The crash remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
