Shortly after noon on Tuesday, authorities were dispatched to a residence in the Broomtown community with a report of a person being shot.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Officer’s arrived on the scene to discover a male had been shot by a family member.

Atrium Floyd Cherokee was on the scene for treatment but the victim succumbed to his injuries. The Cherokee County Coroner was called to assist with the investigation.

According to Chief Deputy Summerford there was no threat to the public.

The names of those involved have not been released. At this time the Sheriff’s Department has not said if charges will be filed. The investigation continues.
