Post from Haralson County Sheriff’s Office:

On Saturday, December 16th (2023), about 2:00am, the Haralson County Crime Suppression Unit along with Floyd County Sheriff’s Office arrested Angela Nicole Patton, a 42-year-old W/F out of Buchanan, Georgia, and David Glyn Smith, a 50-year-old W/M out of Lindale, Georgia in Floyd County Georgia on a Grand Jury warrant for Felony Murder and Cruelty to a Person 65 Year or Older. Patton and Smith were in a shed on a property in Floyd County and refused to come out, so a search warrant was obtained and deputies from both jurisdictions entered the shed and took the pair into custody. We would like to thank the Floyd County Police Department for setting up a perimeter around the building for us and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office for securing the search warrant and assisting us in taking the couple into custody.

In our original media release in this case on October 1st, 2021 we shared that on September 27th, from 2021, Sheriff Stacy Williams went out to a residence for a welfare check on an elderly person and he heard a faint cry for help inside.  Sheriff Williams made entry into the home and found 93-year-old Dora Jordan on her bedroom floor in very weak condition. Ms. Jordan had fallen and been without food or water for an extended period of time and she was transported to the hospital.

The following evening, her caregiver – Angie Patton, and her boyfriend – David Smith, returned home – and were arrested for Cruelty to a Person 65 Years or Older.

On October 27th, 2021 one month after she was found alone on the floor, Dora Jordan died; the death was ruled a homicide by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Medical Examiner’s Office back in March of 2022, so the investigation was reopened; a both lengthy and a thorough investigation was conducted and on December the 4th (2023) – it was presented to the Haralson County Grand Jury and the charges of Murder – and Cruelty to a Person 65 Years or Older were indicted.

“This case shocked the consciousness of so many citizens when we made the original arrest. Good people don’t understand how anyone could mistreat an elderly person, much less a grandparent. This case became even worse when Mrs. Jordan passed away from this treatment,” stated Sheriff Stacy Williams. “I would like to thank the District Attorney’s Office for their invaluable input during this investigation, Sgt. Mecillas for the countless hours she put in to investigate, the Haralson County Grand Jury who did their duty honorably, and our Crime Suppression Unit who have been relentless in the pursuit of Patton and Smith. I would also like to thank the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in taking these two into custody.”
