Second-half surge lifts Spring Garden boys past Cedar Bluff

SPRING GARDEN – The Spring Garden Panthers rallied from a one-point halftime deficit to take a 68-40 area basketball win on Thursday.

John Welsh led the Panthers (5-1) with 21 points, including an 11-point third quarter. Chapel Pope tossed in 13 points. Connor Bates added 12 points. Cole Bailey and Noah Barber finished with six and five points respectively.

Isaac Bishop and Shon Gleen topped the Tigers with eight points. Hunter Stallings added seven points and Kadin Fife finished with six points.

Spring Garden took an early 22-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Cedar Bluff rebounded with a 13-2 run in the second to take a 25-24 edge at halftime. The Panthers responded with 22-8 third quarter run to take a 46-33 lead. They finished the game on a 22-7 run in the fourth for the final.

Spring Garden takes on Collinsville in the Cherokee Classic sponsored by Alabama ONE Credit Union on Saturday at 7 p.m. Cedar Bluff battles Wellborn at 11:30 a.m.
