During the Tuesday afternoon Cedar Bluff Town Council Meeting the speed limit change on Sewell Ferry and Hidden Point Roads was approved by Council to change from 25 to 15 mph. Also, at the Public Hearing the sale of alcohol for Family Dollar was approved.
During the Workshop, Bill Warren and Tammy Amos spoke to the Council about the CSAF. The CSAF is Children and Seniors Assistance Foundation for Cherokee County and specifically Cedar Bluff. The Council appropriated $ 2500 out of the General Fund.
Ashley Langley from CED Mental Health spoke at length to the Council about the annual Youth Program Prevention Conference to be held January 22nd at Gadsden State Cherokee campus. This event is being offered to 7th and 8th grade students in the Cherokee County schools at no cost. Marc Mero former WWE Wrestling Champion will be the speaker. The Council had already appropriated $2400 for this event.
Police Chief Jeremy Stepps gave the Cedar Bluff Police Report for November. There were 11,269 miles patrolled and 13 felony arrests. Bill Warren gave the Fire Department Report and there were 21 fire incidents in November. The Building Inspector Mark Baty gave the inspection report. There were 5 building permits and 57 camper permits.
In new Business the council approved the Holiday, Council Meeting and Court Calendars for 2024.
Police Chief Jeremy Stepps gave the revised 13 Cedar Bluff Town Park Rules. They will be getting a quote on a large sign to be put in the Park too. Chief Stepps also spoke about the surplus Police Department guns. They will buy 5 new Glock handguns and pay for them from the sale of their old guns. The revenue from the sale their old guns will be $1845 and the purchase price of the new guns is $1840. They will be working with Gulf State with the sale and purchase. This was approved.
The Town’s annual Christmas bonus was approved with $1000 for each full time employee and $500 for each part-time worker.
The Council and the Chief spoke about the need for a fence for the Police Department for impounding vehicles in the amount of $12,000 and the camera repair quote for $5659.88 was approved.
The allocation of the remainder of the ARPA Funds was tabled.
Bill Warren spoke with the Council at length about writing a grant for a new fire truck. The Council approved the measure.
The next Cedar Bluff Town Council Meeting will be January 8th.
