Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Bishop

(April 30th, 1940-December 7th 2023)

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hincy Bishop, age 83 of Center passed away Thursday December 7th, 2023.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM Sunday December 10th at Perry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12Pm until the time of service at the funeral home.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Bishop(Susan), Birmingham, David Bishop(Michelle), Gadsden, Paul Bishop(Jennifer), Gadsden and special niece Judy Bailey(Harry) Centre: Grandchildren, Bret Bishop, Jordan Bishop, Hope Bishop, Cooper Bishop, Brandon(Lauren) Bishop, Samuel Bishop and Great Grandson Aidan Bishop

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph William Bishop: Mary and Ralph were married for 61 years; Brother and Sisters, Thomas Hincy, Jewell Hincy Moody, Luther Hincy, Opal Hincy Matthews, Pearl Kisor Hincy, Jerry Lee Hincy, Ruby Jo Hincy Kisor.

Mrs. Bishop was a lifelong native of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late Horace Luther and Josie Lumsden Hincy. Mrs. Bishop was a graduate of Jacksonville State University where she received both her bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. Mrs. Bishop taught Special Education at Centre Middle and Cedar Bluff High school and retired from the Cherokee County School system.

Mrs. Bishop was a loving mother and member of the Friendship Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible school teacher for many years.

Mrs. Bishop and her husband were active members of the Centre Lion’s Club.
