Fort Payne Police Identify Recent Accident Fatality

Fort Payne Police have identified a man who died Thursday in a collision with an ambulance.

Police Chief David Davis said that incident happened at about 9:14am on Glenn Boulevard S.W. in front of the Landers McLarty Ford location.  Marcus Marcell Legnon, age 32 of Rainville, was traveling south on Glenn Boulevard – when he struck the rear-end of a DeKalb Ambulance Service ambulance being driven by William Ray Smith of a Geraldine address.

The ambulance then struck Douglas Wayne Peters, 68, of Stevenson.  The passenger with Peters, Connie Elliot Peters, age 66, also from Stevenson, was transported to DeKalb Regional by DeKalb Ambulance Service.  Legnon was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of that incident – the ambulance had three employees inside the vehicle, with no patient aboard.  The crash is still under investigation.
