St.Clair sinks five treys in Sand Rock girls’ victory over Piedmont; Bethel leads Bulldog boys to win

SAND ROCK – Kaitlyn St.Clair sank five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 29 points to lead the Sand Rock Lady Wildcats past Piedmont 69-50 in girls basketball action on Thursday night.

St.Clair also grabbed seven boards and dished out four assists for the Lady Wildcats (6-2).

Zoey Handy netted 19 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had seven steals. Molly Grace Lay scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers. Kennedy Henderson finished with four points and eight rebounds.

Morgan Studdard led Piedmont (2-3) with 14 points. Jenna Duke delivered eight points. Ava Pope contributed seven points. Cacey Brothers had six points. Jacey Glover and Mel Studdard both finished with five points.

Sand Rock jumped out to a 23-7 first-quarter advantage. The Lady Wildcats led 36-21 at halftime and 61-37 after three quarters.

The Lady Wildcats host Glencoe on Friday. Piedmont hosts Wellborn on Tuesday.

In boys action, Ish Bethel rang for 22 points and Colton Proctor added 15 in leading the Bulldogs to a 70-49 victory.

Bethel connected on three 3-pointers for Piedmont (2-1). Jaylen Brown and Cole Wilson both netted eight points. Wilson sank a pair of treys. Taylor Swain finished with six points.

Ty Traffanstedt topped Sand Rock with 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Cam Gifford came away with 13 points. Elijah Hood finished with seven points.

Free-throw shooting proved costly for Sand Rock (0-9). The Wildcats went 11-for-25 at the charity stripe. Piedmont was 21-of-30.

The Bulldogs went on a 21-9 first-quarter run and led 38-23 at halftime. The Bulldogs held a 60-35 advantage after three quarters.
